Headless CMS options

When to add a managed content editor on top of a typed, repository-based content model.

SITEBORNE’s default model treats content as typed data living in the repository, edited through version control—the same discipline applied to code, with the same history and review. That is deliberately the simplest option, not the only one. When a client’s team needs to publish without a developer in the loop—several editors, frequent updates, a draft-and-approve workflow—a headless CMS adapter is a scoped addition, chosen for the specific editorial need rather than added by default to every project.

Intended use: Giving a client's own team the ability to publish or edit content without touching code or waiting on a developer.
Best-fit user: Multiple non-technical editors, frequent content changes, or an editorial workflow that needs drafts, preview, and revision history.
Important limitation: A headless CMS is another account, another monthly cost tier past its own free allowance, and another system to keep in sync with the typed content model it feeds.
Security or privacy: Editor accounts and roles need the same access discipline as any other production system—least privilege, not a shared login.
Free-tier status: Not a Cloudflare allowance; most headless CMS providers publish their own limited free or trial tier, verified separately per project.
Commercial use: Depends on the specific CMS provider selected; verify before relying on it.

Alternative: Typed content collections and structured configuration edited directly in the project repository through ordinary version control.
Migration concern: Content modeled inside a specific CMS's schema format takes real migration work to move to a different CMS or back to a repository-based model—model the content deliberately, not just paste it in.
